Julie has recently taken to producing small watercolor monotypes which, although relatively simple, continue to convey the impressions of her larger works. Interestingly, many of them represent water, perhaps stimulated by the media used to produce their content. Julie says, "These small works tend to be very impromptu. When I'm working on something that is very tight, I need to do something loose, to have some fun, and these are fun and give me immediate gratification. They are very spontaneous, they surprise me because the result is sometimes unexpected, I see the form as I apply the ink to the plate but I don't have a clue as to how it will be received by the paper."
